Not Just Protests — Real Action!” Lampung Workers Turn May Day 2026 Into a Powerful Social Movement.

Bandar Lampung | Kabar Negeri Plus — May 1, 2026

In a striking shift from the usual chants and street protests, workers in Lampung redefined International Workers’ Day 2026 with something far more tangible: direct action for the people.

On Friday morning, May 1, starting at 07:30 AM WIB, the **Majelis Pekerja Buruh Indonesia (MPBI) of Lampung Province launched a large-scale social initiative at Jl. Tupai/Bakti No. 62, Sidodadi, Kedaton District, Bandar Lampung—turning May Day into a platform of service, solidarity, and social impact.

From Protest to Purpose: Workers Serving the People.

This year’s May Day celebration stood out with a series of community-centered programs, including:

  • Free public health check-ups
  • Blood donation drives in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross
  • Free circumcision services for children.

Rather than symbolic gestures, these initiatives directly addressed community needs—delivering real benefits to residents, especially in Kedaton and surrounding areas.

Strong Collaboration Across Institutions
The event was backed by a wide coalition of stakeholders, including:

  • Polda Lampung
  • Kodam II/Sriwijaya
  • Dinas Tenaga Kerja
  • BPJS Kesehatan.

Local health centers and medical professionals
This multi-sector collaboration ensured that the event ran safely, smoothly, and delivered maximum impact—highlighting how labor movements can align with government and institutions for broader social good.

A Dual Strategy: Social Action and Policy Advocacy.

MPBI’s approach this year reflects a strategic evolution. Beyond demonstrations, the labor movement is strengthening:

Social legitimacy through direct community service.

Policy advocacy through dialogue with government and employers
Residents of Sidodadi were actively encouraged to participate, with coordination extending down to neighborhood (RT/RW) levels—ensuring widespread engagement.

“Workers Are Here for the People”
Sulaiman Ibrahim, a key figure in the movement, emphasized a powerful message:

“May Day is not just about demands—it’s about workers being present for the people.”

He further stressed that Labor Day is not merely a public holiday, but a critical moment to voice workers’ aspirations and push for meaningful change.

Peaceful Action, Digital Campaigns, and a Call for Unity.

The 2026 May Day in Lampung also featured:
Peaceful demonstrations.
Digital advocacy campaigns highlighting current labor issues
